More about Calgary Women's Ultimate...

One of our focuses this year is to build the women's scene in Calgary. That means we're going to spend the first part of the season introducing new faces to the women's game in addition to developing the skills of intermediate players. As we move into the middle of summer, we'll shift our focus to building a competitive Wild Rose team for traveling to tournaments.

Any lady is welcome to come out to our practices – April practices will be fairly informal and will mostly focus on fitness and throwing; starting in May, practices will become more structured with specific drills and scrimmages. We’ll post more detailed practice info on our website soon, but for now, here’s some information about how this year will run:

Calgary Women's Ultimate

(for players interested in women’s ultimate or interested in improving their skills)

Calgary women’s ultimate is for ladies who are interested in seeing what the women's game is all about or who would like to practice in a ladies-only environment, but don't necessarily have the time or the desire to play competitively full-time with the team. All skill levels are welcome, we just ask that you come prepared to work hard and be open to learning new styles of play.

Is this for you? It is if you answer yes to any of these criteria.... Do you want to:
  • improve your throwing and catching
  • learn which cuts will get you the disc more often
  • learn more about basic defensive and offensive strategies
  • have never played women's before, but would like to try it out
  • attend practices here and there, but not commit full-time
  • want a great workout to stay in shape throughout the season
Wild Rose Touring Team: 2010 Season
(for players interested in practicing full-time and traveling to competitive tournaments)

As Calgary's only touring women's team, Wild Rose is keen to build a squad of players willing to practice and train regularly, travel to out-of-town tournaments, and take their skills to a higher level of competitive play. Women in this group are expected to already have experience playing at a high-B or A Division level of ultimate. There will still be room for improvement, but a base set of throwing, catching and cutting skills is expected.

Is this for you? It is if you answer yes to all of these criteria.... Do you want to:
  • commit two nights a week to practicing/scrimmages
  • improve your technique, field sense and red-zone decision-making
  • sharpen your current skill base as well as broaden the skills you have (e.g., perfect your huck!)
  • learn advanced offensive and defensive strategies
  • travel to two or three out-of-town tournaments (the first being Flowerbowl, June 5-6, in Vancouver, BC)
If you are interested in either of the above, please come out and join us! Our first unofficial practice will be Thursday, April 8, starting at 6:30 pm – check back here next week for location information.

If you have any questions or want to be added to our email list, please email us at calgarywomensultimate@gmail.com. Wild Rose will also have team members on each of the CUA Women’s Spring League teams, so keep an eye out for ladies wearing a Wild Rose jersey and feel free to introduce yourself and ask questions in person!

We look forward to seeing new faces on the fields this year :)
