J-E-L-L-O Shooters Are Back for HoDown 2011!!

Back for a second year in a row (do we hear a tradition forming?), Wild Rose is hitting the HoDown 2011 Saturday night party with jello shooters...this time with a wilder assortment of fruity flavours and spirited concoctions!

Bring some cash and look for the Wild Rose femme fatales at the party (trust us, we'll be hard to miss) -- $3 for one jello shot, or two for $5. Homemade by the Wild ladies themselves, this ain't the jello your mom used to make.

Spread the word to your friends because HoDown party tickets can be purchased for anyone, even if they didn't play in the tourney and have never touched a disc. For just $20 / person you get full access to non-stop wobbly pops, a lit Cups pitch, volleybal, bocci, a beer-pong tourney, live bands, a live DJ to help you dance the night away, and of course a bunch of other shenanigans nobody plans for.

Party tickets can be purchased from either the GAP or CRU Disc Central tents. Note: All tourney participants and volunteers get free access to dinner and the party.

For more tourney info, visit the CUA website. Hope to see you there!

Practice Tonight Moved Indoors - Chalk Talk @ 6:30 pm

Due to the weather, we're moving tonight's practice indoors for a chalk talk at the Calgary Police Department Admin Building:

316 - 7th Ave SE
6:30 - 8:30pm
Google Map

It's probably easiest to take the C-Train (Centre Street or Olympic Plaza stop), but if you need to drive there is parking available behind City Hall on 4th Street SE (both lot and Street).

Unfortunately there's a lot of construction going on in that area at the moment which means you can only access the main doors from the MacLeod Trail side of 7th Ave. Please leave early and possibly carpool with someone who's been there before.

Don't be late.
Lucky needs to let us into the building so be there at 6:30 pm SHARP. If you are going to be late or get lost, call her cell. See you tonight!

Vancouver May Have Been The Loser, But Wild Rose Has A Winner!

The Wild Rose Stanley Cup Hockey Pool results are in! Drumroll please....
  • 1st place: hebertj
  • 2nd place: thesilly1
  • 3rd place: reevers
Congrats! To collect your winnings, please email us

Thanks again to everyone who supported this fundraising drive of ours. For anyone who missed out, there's always next year! (which is what the Canucks are probably telling themselves right now too....)

All-Girls Youth Clinic with Monday Practice

If you know any girls aged 12 - 18 who would love to try ultimate (or have already played a few times and want to polish their skills), invite them to the Calgary Rugby Union this Monday! Wild Rose will be hosting an All-Girls Youth Clinic alongside its Monday practice. All skills are welcome and the clinic is free! Youth just need to RSVP to Tim. This clinic puts the "fun" in fundamentals as some of Wild Rose's team members will teach ultimate's basic skills, incorporate them into some fun drills, and then end with a scrimmage to bring it all together!

All-Girls Youth Clinic
6:30 - 8:30 pm
Calgary Rugby Union (9025 Shepard Road SE)

In the meantime, our regular Calgary Women's Ultimate practice will also take place at CRU at the same time and is open to women of all skills. Be there at 6:30 pm sharp, and bring a light and dark shirt!

Any questions on the clinic or regular practice, email us!

Interested in CUC with Wild Rose?

After a successful Flowerbowl weekend for Wild (4th place) and Rose (top 6), with both teams having strong wins over Edmonton, our focus now turns to preparing for the Canadian Ultimate Championships (CUC) taking place in Ottawa from August 11-14th, 2011.

Interested in CUC?
If you're interested in playing with Wild Rose at CUC, please fill out the following form no later than Thursday, June 9th:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDlQQk84djJuZmdpWjcxNVN6Tkh0OGc6MQ

To ensure a cohesive team at CUC, we are looking for committed players who can attend practice on a regular basis. Once we've received all of the responses, we will determine how many ladies we will take with us (we're looking at taking a fairly robust roster) and if there will be a need for “tryouts”.

Interested in Kelowna but can’t make CUC?
Kelowna is hosting a women’s tournament on July 9-10th. If you’re interested in playing but can’t make CUC, please email us. If there’s enough interest, we’ll look into organizing a second team of ladies in addition to the Wild Rose CUC team.

Practices are now closed
Practices will now be closed for the remainder of the season. All ladies who are attending CUC are expected to attend practices on a regular basis. To ensure adequate numbers for practices, Flo friends and all the ladies who attended Flowerbowl with Wild Rose are still welcome to join. If you don't fit into one of those categories but are still interested in attending practices and are able to commit to coming on a regular basis, please discuss with one of the captains or email us.

Girls clinic on Monday
Wild Rose is hosting an all-girls clinic on Monday, June 13th starting at 6:30 pm at Calgary Rugby Union. It's free, and girls of any skill level aged 18 or under are welcome to join. Tell all the girls you know! For more information, please email juniors@calgaryultimate.org.

Any questions? Email us at calgarywomensultimate@gmail.com!

No practice tonight

Practice is cancelled tonight to give the Flowerbowl ladies a well-deserved rest. We're currently working out some plans for the rest of the season - check back here soon for more info.
