Big Spring Update - Lots Happening April, May & June!

With spring right around the corner, we've got lots of news to share on some fun ulti events coming up as well as all the ways you can play with Calgary Women's Ultimate this year!

Spring League Starts April 2 - Have You Registered?
We can't promote this enough.....it's a great way to start the season, introduce new women to the game, and make new friends on the field. Hosted by the Calgary Ultimate Association (CUA), this six-week women's league runs on Monday nights (on turf fields!) and is open to ALL skill levels (from beginners to competitive players). Bring a friend and sign up as a pair! Teams will feature a diversity of skills and each team will include one or two Wild Rose competitive players to lend tips and answer questions. For more details or to register online, check out the CUA's Spring League info.

Women's Practices - Mondays & Thursdays
Thursday practices will start mid-April and after Spring League ends, practices will be Mondays and Thursdays for the rest of the season. Leading up to June, practices will be open to all skills and focused on development and skill-building. Spread the word -- all ladies are welcome. We run drills, work on skills, and then scrimmage as a group. Even if you're not interested in playing competitively, this is a great place to polish your throws, learn some strategy, and get a good game in. Stay tuned to the website for dates and location details. After June, we'll be having 'closed' practices, with a competitive focus for those playing with Wild Rose at the Canadian Ultimate Championships (CUC).

Women's Skills Clinic - May 3
Join Wild Rose on Thursday, May 3 for a Women's Skills Clinic. This will be a great intro for any ladies new to the sport and/or for any women wanting to sharpen their skills. We'll work on throwing & catching, touch on some strategy, and wrap-up with a fun scrimmage. Location will be our Market Mall fields, beginning at 6:30 pm sharp. This session is free and all levels are welcome. Bring a friend -- the more the merrier!

Wild Rose Tryouts - May 10 & 12
Want to take your game to the next level? Want to work harder, run faster, and dig deeper? Want to go to Nationals?? Wild Rose will be hosting open tryouts May 10 and 12 for the team that will represent Alberta at the Canadian Ultimate Championships (CUC) in Victoria, BC on August 16 - 19. Tryouts are open to any woman interested in practicing and travelling with the team full-time during the summer season. Tournament travel will include Flowerbowl (June 2-3, Vancouver, BC), Kelowna KAOS (July 7 - 8, Kelowna, BC), and CUC (Aug 16 - 19, Victoria, BC). Interested players must attend both tryout days. If you can't attend both, but still want to tryout for the team, please email us.

Spring Hat Tournament - May 13
Book off Sunday, May 13 for a fun day of ultimate and join Wild Rose and the masterly men of FIGJAM for their legendary Spring Hat Tourney. Everyone is welcome, and teams are made randomly. Always a good time, this tourney kicks off Summer League and is a great opportunity to play with a new crew and maybe pick up a tip or two along the way. Registration details will be posted soon -- keep your eyes on our website.

Flowerbowl 2012 - June 2 & 3
Since we had such a great time last year, Calgary Women's Ultimate is going to try and send two women's teams to Flowerbowl again this year. We're looking for a mix of experienced and development players. This is a great early-season tournament and an excellent opportunity to play against women's teams from across the region. If you only go to one women's tournament this year, make it this one! Stay tuned for more information.

Fitness: Worth Its Weight in Sweat!
Remember how great it feels whenever you can outrun and outlast your opponent? Tip: Start focusing on conditioning this month and carry that through to the regular season. Get your sprints in now to be able to blow everyone away in May! Since it's usually more fun and motivating to push through a workout with buddies, we're going to run some group fitness sessions over the next month or two for stairs running, throwing, and other winter-weight-removal activities. Got an idea for an fitness activity? Email us and we'll organize it. Otherwise, stay tuned to the website and join us for these workouts. All ladies are welcome (even those not trying out for Wild Rose).
